چکیده
RESEARCHDESIGNANDMETHODSdPatients inadequately controlled onmetformin and sulfonylurea (HbA1c $7 to #10%) were randomized and treated with once-daily empagliflozin 10 mg (n = 225), empagliflozin 25 mg (n = 216), or placebo (n = 225) for 24 weeks. The primary end point was change from baseline inHbA1c at week 24. Key secondary end points were changes from baseline in weight and mean daily glucose (MDG) at week 24.

Empagliflozin as Add-on to Metformin Plus Sulfonylurea in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes
OBJECTIVE To investigate the efficacy and tolerability of empagliflozin as add-on to metformin and sulfonylurea in patients with type 2 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Patients inadequately controlled on metformin and sulfonylurea (HbA1c ≥7 to ≤10%) were randomized and treated with once-daily empagliflozin 10 mg (n = 225), empagliflozin 25 mg (n = 216), or placebo (n = 225) for 24 weeks...
متن کاملCombination therapy in type 2 diabetes mellitus: adding empagliflozin to basal insulin.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) management is complex, with few patients successfully achieving recommended glycemic targets with monotherapy, most progressing to combination therapy, and many eventually requiring insulin. Sodium glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are an emerging class of antidiabetes agents with an insulin-independent mechanism of action, making them suitable for use i...
متن کاملEmpagliflozin as add-on to metformin in patients with type 2 diabetes: a 24-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
OBJECTIVE To investigate the efficacy and tolerability of empagliflozin as an add-on to metformin therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Patients with HbA1c levels of ≥7% to ≤ 10% (≥53 to ≤86 mmol/mol) while receiving metformin (≥1,500 mg/day) were randomized and treated with once-daily treatment with empagliflozin 10 mg (n = 217), empagliflozin 25 mg (n = 213),...
متن کاملDapagliflozin Versus Glipizide as Add-on Therapy in PatientsWith Type 2 DiabetesWho Have Inadequate Glycemic ControlWithMetformin A randomized, 52-week, double-blind, active-controlled noninferiority trial
OBJECTIVE—Although initially effective, sulfonylureas are associated with poor glycemic durability, weight gain, and hypoglycemia. Dapagliflozin, a selective inhibitor of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2), reduces hyperglycemia by increasing urinary glucose excretion independent of insulin andmay cause fewer of these adverse effects. We compared the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of dap...
متن کاملEfficacy and safety of alogliptin added to sulfonylurea in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes: A randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial with an open‐label, long‐term extension study
AIMS/INTRODUCTION To evaluate the efficacy and safety of alogliptin added to treatment with glimepiride. MATERIALS AND METHODS This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, 24-week (12-week observation and 12-week treatment) study compared alogliptin 12.5 or 25 mg in combination with glimepiride (1-4 mg/day) vs placebo added to glimepiride monotherapy in Japanese patients with t...
